8 Damaging Parenting Styles

In Tim Elmer’s book Generation iY, he lists 8 damaging parenting styles. Just like a butterfly must experience the struggle of breaking out of the cocoon to strengthen its wings, so also our youth must mature into adulthood by experiencing failure, relating to difficult people, and other hard things we would like to protect them from. The Right Tool to Solve the Rock of the Poor Economy

I recently was inspired to think about how to solve the poor economy. At the 2011 Shaklee convention, I had the privilege of hearing Aron Ralsted speak to us. Aron is an extreme outdoor explorer who narrowly escaped death in 2003 during a hike through the Blue John Canyon in Utah. Aron had his arm pinned by a half-ton boulder for nearly a week and he made the agonizing decision to cut off his right arm in order to free himself with a pocketknife. Continue reading

Stay tuned for a video or two of her playing the piano. But the highlights of Kinza’s adoption story are included here. Continue reading

Turn Black Friday Green

In just a few days many people will freely remove money from their wallets in exchange for deals to entertain, decorate, eat, wear, etc. for themselves or others as gifts. I guess it is well-named as “black” Friday since the desire for deals overshadows healthy contemplation about a purchase.

The Language of Your Hands

When was the last time you really studied your hands? I mean really examined them? I have a theory about hands. My theory is that hands have their own language. Not a language of words, of course, but rather hands are the main way you interact with your world. With your hands you embrace life or push it away. Think about it: language involves speaking good words, hurtful words, neutral words, or no words. It is the same way with hands: they can communicate kindness and gentleness, or hatefulness and anger. Yes, hands have a definite language.

The Power of Recording Your Life Stories

Life stories. Hmmm. Have you ever stopped to reflect on your life experiences, how they have shaped you, and all the lessons you have learned from them? Or, going beyond that, have you proactively done something to share your life stories with your children and grandchildren and others you love? Continue reading
