Ask Yourself: Is That How I Want to Spend my Life?
Recently I asked myself “is that how I want to spend my life?” Well, truth be told, I was told by my life coach to ask myself that. Okay. Wait. Let me back up here.
Have you ever evaluated your life on the life wheel idea? It’s pretty cool. I was introduced to the concept by my life coach who I have been meeting with recently. It is where you divide your life into 8 – 11 different categories (your choice), and then evaluate how you are doing in each category.
So back to my life coach. She had me choose 8 different categories in my life and make them into pie shapes in a circle. So I chose health, family, spirituality, business, recreation, finance, friends, & personal growth. (In reflecting now, I would add a few more, but that is beside the point.) I then rated each category as to how I was doing with 1 being “needs lots of improvement” and 10 being “totally fantastic.” Yes, it was quite eye-opening – especially the realization that my business was just a small part of the pie!

Can God Use Social Media to Answer Prayer?
I have a question for you today: Do you believe that God can answer prayer through the use of social media? I have an incredible story to share with you about how God did just that when we were on a 13 hour trip to visit our kids and grandkids. We had a serious breakdown and . . . well, just listen to what happened here. Continue reading
A Stressful Mule Ride with No Option for Getting Off
My husband, Mark, and I began our married life together as missionaries in Ethiopia. Ethiopia is a beautiful, mountainous country, and at one point, we lived in Waka where we could only come in and out of our station by a small airplane – or a two day mule trip! There were no car roads into Waka. One of my husband’s roles there was to teach and preach at out-lying villages so he had to make treks into the surrounding mountains to do so. On one such trek, I went with him. He had never been to this particular area before. We would take mules and walk some of the time, and ride mules the rest of the time. His treks were usually 2 or 3 days in length – this one was 3 days. Continue reading
Turn Tragedy into Music Making
“About 18 years ago, a Dagomba woman named Sanatu gave birth to a baby girl in a mud hut in Ghana, West Africa. After giving birth, 18 year old Sanatu propped herself up on her elbows to look at her baby. A tear came down her cheek as she gazed at her tiny daughter, but then she fell back into the midwife’s arms and died. All the midwives started wailing “Oh Sanatu” while leaving the newborn alone in the corner of the mud hut.

What is Taking Up Too Much Real Estate in Your Brain?
Years ago, I was teaching Class 2 in an international school in Kumasi, Ghana where my children also attended. I enjoyed teaching my 24 six year olds, though I did feel the heavy responsibility of taking them from point A in September to point B in June! Our books and supplies were limited so I used small, white-papered exercise books for their writing assignments.
I remember one night after my three kids were in bed, I was using a ruler to draw lines in each of the 24 exercise books for the next day – so my kids would have lines to write on. As I drew the lines, I suddenly came to my senses! Being consumed with straight lines for these kids to write on was taking up way too much real estate in my brain – as well as minutes from my day that could be invested in a much more profitable way. I put the pen and ruler down and accepted the fact that the kids could write their assignments without the lines.

A Christmas Gift to Give to Jesus

The Language of Your Hands
When was the last time you really studied your hands? I mean really examined them? I have a theory about hands. My theory is that hands have their own language. Not a language of words, of course, but rather hands are the main way you interact with your world. With your hands you embrace life or push it away. Think about it: language involves speaking good words, hurtful words, neutral words, or no words. It is the same way with hands: they can communicate kindness and gentleness, or hatefulness and anger. Yes, hands have a definite language.

People normally do a pretty good job promoting healthy emotions in others by appreciating them, building them up, and valuing their help.
