What are vital strategies that are needed to increase your business success?

Scott Ginsberg, the nametag guy, has written a book called -able, where he elaborates on 35 different ‘-able’ words, from ‘advanceable’ to ‘yessable. ’

Scott’s goal is to help you learn 35 strategies for increasing the probability of success in business and in life. His theory is that the only thing in life you have control over is yourself. Do you agree with his philosophy?

Scott’s blog includes a challenge contest  to coin a new word with the ending -able (pronounced a-bull, by the way). Head on over there to check it out – when you finish reading my entry, of course.

So my newly-coined -able word is (drum roll please):

Connectable: Vital for your Business Success

Connectable is the ability to join two things together; the ability to show or think as being related in some form; (and, for our purposes) the ability to discover & nurture a relationship from a common point of interest with another person.

At first thought, connectable brings to mind concrete examples like a coffee shop offering wi-fi so that you can connect your laptop to the internet. “Ahhh,” you think, “that coffee shop offers connectability.”

But our purpose here is for the -able words is to increase the probability of business success as well as success in life in general.

How is being connectable a vital part of business success?

You, as a person, have to be connectable to others. You can have an awesome product, great skills to impart, knowledge beyond your years, resources to die for – but if you can’t connect with your followers, you aren’t going anywhere.

My adult kids were visiting this weekend and we were eager to introduce them to our friends at church. Introductions often included connectable points such as, “The Dodds homeschool too” or “The Kelleys have six kids like you.”

Think about your facebook friends and comments that happen. They are often the result of connect-ability. After I posted that we were going to Bradley University to check it out for my daughter, one of my facebook friends who I haven’t seen in 12 years, commented that two of their kids are at Bradley. Now we are chatting back and forth about Bradley.

Mentioning Ghana on one of my tweets resulted in several friends on twitter in Ghana – because we lived there for 20 years and are connectable about life there.

Social networks and the web in general are all about connecting people everywhere. To grow in your business success, be real and learn to look for a connection with people. Remember that there is a person sitting behind the computer.

Seven Tips to Sharpen your Connectable Skills:

1. Write like you talk. It makes you more real and it is more like a casual conversation.

2. Be vulnerable. Share failures. People connect quicker with failures than successes.

3. When interacting with responses, look for the commonality.  Comment on blog posts that resonate with you.

4. Write your post or newsletter with one particular person in mind (rather than a mass of people). It makes you write more real and people are able to identify with you and connect with you.

5. You should still keep your individuality and represent yourself honestly and transparently. That’s what makes you unique. Don’t try to be someone else. Be you!

6. Get in your readers’ shoes. Look for what they are feeling and then communicate to that.  It’s  the ability to get your reader to say, “Yea, me too!” Some of the successful mom blogs out there are because other moms can identify and say “That happens to me too – all the time!” It gives people a good feeling of, well, connectedness.

7. Finally, check out Scott’s blog and sign up for his regular emails. You will see he practices all these things (well, except for number seven) and you will increase your business success!

You will be more connectable!

Hey friend. Thanks for returning to check out my posts. Have you grabbed your free personal nutrition questionnaire on the right side over there? Hope so! Stop back often to capitalize on all my research to save you time on learning about improving your health! Blessings, Amy
