Words of Encouragement Can Lift a Person Up

Have you ever considered the influence that words of encouragement can have on someone?

I had a strange thing happen to me eleven years ago now. Listen to this quick video about what happened:

I received a letter that said “do not open until May 3rd.” That was strange – May 3rd isn’t my birthday.

It was an amazing letter of encouragement.

Then I got two more words of encouragement in the next few days – one by text and the other by email!

By the fourth day, when I received a birthday card from a particular internet buddy wishing me a happy 60th birthday, I realized something was up. How could this girl have known I had a birthday in 55 days and was about to turn 60?

As it turned out, one of my sneaky daughters had planned with all my friends and family members to send me a card, email, text, flowers, or package every day for the 60 days before my birthday. Amazing. I put them all together in an album because that made a serious collection of encouraging words!

Encouraging words really lift our hearts.

Who has impacted you in your life that you can encourage?

Write a letter, send an email, or send a text to someone to tell them how God used them in your life. Doing something like this goes right along with the theory to be living life on purpose. Don’t you agree?

I Thessalonians 5:11 says “Therefore, encourage one another, and build up one another, just as you also are doing.”

Words of encouragement go a long way toward lifting someone up. I am proof of that.

Our encouraging words have the ability to influence others too as I shared in this post.

Making good choices in our everyday lives include being proactive to encourage those in our spheres of influence.

Great message and great delivery. Most of us don’t realize just a few words of encouragement or a heartfelt thank you can mean so much to someone. Sometimes just a smile to a person who is having a bad day or some trials in life can mean so much.

  Hi Steve, That is so try. We often don’t realize how we have helped someone and it is so true that a smile and a warm look can be all that a person needs to feel encouraged. I always like to think that the eyes go right to a person’s soul – that is why I love to look in someone’s eyes so much while thinking how valuable they are to God. Thanks for commenting! Encouragement is so important in so many ways. When I decided to quit smoking, it was my wife’s support and encouragement that helped make it happen for me. God imparted upon me strength and gave me encouragement through my wife. It is important to lift people up rather than bring them down with anger and hatred. “Love one another” – John 13:34.

Came across this today as I was feeling a bit down and discouraged about life. Feeling alone. Yet I know God is with me. Adopted 2 babies who have grown up and have children of their own . They dont usually contact us unless we contact them. Doing this for many yrs now it gets tiresome in being the one having to make contact . I feel rejected by one more than the other as they have made contact with birth parents and live nearby them and so we as adoptive parents to our son we get to see him a wk before or after Christmas. Please pray that God will open my heart and give me HIM alone to keep my heart encouraged and not let the loss of family in my life or our lives keep me from trusting and holding on.

In Canada.

Have a friend who needs encouraged as well who lives in USA and her husband has Parkinsons Disease. She becomes discouraged as she faces each day watching him lose himself to this. I am wanting to encourage her as well.. So that is how I came to your site. God bless you!! You are so right , we need to put a hand on someones shoulder and let them know they matter. You are interested in what they have to say. Your smile and encouragement may be the only way they see God in this world.

  HI Patricia, Thanks for sharing all of this, Patricia. I am so sorry to hear of your loneliness with the situation with your adopted children not contacting you any more. I am praying for YOU as you requested to truly feel God’s loving arms around you. You gave your love to those precious children and He knows your sacrifice. I pray that He will bring their hearts back to you too. So sorry about your friend whose husband has Parkinsons Disease and she is seeing him deteriorate. yes, you can be an encouragement to her through this hard time in her life. Truly you can have an impact on her through your friendship and especially through your prayers. God bless you, Amy
